Leaders don't flock, you find them one at a time.

Last night, digging up some protocol specification in my personal computer archives, I ran across a list of quotes. It was the stuff I found inside one of the corporate booklet back in times when I was employed by a big financial firm on Wall Street. Believe it or not, I, myself, typed these quotes from a junk mail into a text file and saved. Reflecting on my past career, I sometimes think that I was not lucky to have bosses who are good leaders. Probably that is why I've set my mind on becoming my own boss eventually. Well, I one of my bosses a long time ago was a nice leader. Unfortunately he wasn't that good at software engineering, and the company was just about that. (It was BEFORE "dot com" bubble so don't gloat THAT loud)

Below is some motivation stuff of unknown (to me - I don't remember) authors. Most of it applies to leaders in general, which includes ballroom dancing leaders. "Dancing leaders" is associated mostly with actual dancing; yet, this ability shows up in the dancing related administrative activities. First of all, for those who sets up the studio and attracts new customers. But also it is an essential task for any amateur dancing couple. Somebody in the couple should actively seek the best coaching available, make decisions about switching teachers, selecting the program what to study, picking up all the outfits for competitions, etc.

Anyways, I hope you agree with me that it is nicer to be in charge of your life, instead of following somebody else's agenda. Here is that corporate mail junk I am talking about:

"A true leader has the confidence to stand alone, the courage to make tough decisions, and the compassion to listen to the needs of others. He does not set out to be a leader, but becomes one by the quality of his actions and the integrity of his intent. In the end, leaders are much like eagles... they don't flock, you find them one at a time."

"Excellence is the result of caring more than others think is wise, risking more then others think is safe, dreaming more than others think is practical, and expecting more than others think is possible."

"Unless you try to do something beyond what you have already mastered, you will never grow."

"Adversity does not build character... it releals it."

"[Teamwork] is the fuel that allows common people to attain uncommon results."

"Some people dream of success... while others wake up and work hard at it."

"Greatness is not in where we stand, but in what direction we are moving." -- Olivere Wendell Holmes

"A leader's job is to look into the future, and to see the organization not as it is... but as it can become."

"Go over, go under, go around, or go through. But never give up."

"Courage does not always roar. Sometimes, it is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, 'I will try again tomorrow'."

"It's not whether you get knocked down.. it's whether you get up again that matters."

"Only those who see the invisible can do the impossible."
